The only answer to that question that would make any sense would be a compromise to satisfy some studio edict, but does the ending of Rogue One play out like a compromise to anyone at all? I could understand it if there was a sudden…

Totally just thought the same thing. Amazons being created by Zeus to fight Ares seems pretty reminiscent of the idea that Kryptonians were created to order to fulfill specific roles, ie the military purpose that Zod was born into and Kal-El, as a natural birth, was an the exception to.
