Release it on PC to start with, and release the source code later. Consider it an investment. The community will spend years and years improving your game, porting it to new platforms and keeping it relevant.

I’m kind of surprised there isn’t some sort of digital library of congress that contains versions of multimedia for preservation:  movies, music, video games, published software.

They could tie copyright protection to market use. If the product is no longer manufactured/available for purchase, the clock starts ticking. The owner can choose to let it expire or apply for a renewal of their copyright, with no restrictions on how many times they renew, but a regular expiration cycles.

That’s a little aggressive.  I shouldn’t be able to copy, distribute and profit from a version of Bladerunner because the studio made a new one and people are nostalgic.

i believe i would do this pretty regularly when playing longer games using knockoff memory cards back in the ps1/dreamcast days (Vice City, Chrono Cross) as i tried to figure out which card had which games and which digital number thingy to switch it to.
