I agree with what you’re saying, that they should be doing this, but it’s absolutely not irrelevant, it’s the entire purpose of the post. This isn’t a post about Facebook being bad, it’s a post about Facebook using an analogy that makes no sense. That’s wrong, it makes perfect sense.

Given how straightforward the analogy seems, maybe the headline should be changed to the more accurate “Gizmodo writer confused about Lord of the Rings analogy”?

Not to mention that the exact fact that hobbits were a profoundly ordinary, non-threatening people meant that Sauron completely overlooked and dismissed them as a threat, allowing them to sneak in through the back door while Sauron was focused on the big, imposing army of the important races at the gates.

Yeah, I really thought that was pretty straightforward.

There actually is a legit story out there behind the union stuff you’re seeing. The business owners sacked a bunch of folks who overplayed their hand on another GMG blog (Deadspin). That was a pretty tragic case.

It’s definitely getting ridiculous, especially when this particular article seems to be written without any actual news and just a reason to bring up the same things again.  Ironic, given that it leads of saying “we don’t have time” when it sure seems like Gizmodo has wasted a lot of time deliberately writing negative

that is why I laugh at the burger king commercials.

They ran out of things to be faux outraged at and it just happened to come up next.

It’s made from people.

Gotta keep them in your mind, that way you're familiar with it when the affiliate links to buy one on the cheap get posted.

big important errand that can and should have been farmed out to literally anyone more capable?

I’m confused. Whether you think this is a bad analogy or not, it’s not hard to understand. Facebook is Galadriel, and the ring is the power to decide which ads are ok and which should be banned. They’re saying that they can idealize that they’re police the ads in a beneficial way, but they can see how it’s going to be

um...

It’s like their hatred for Microsoft and love for Apple. Gizmodo writers are biased. Microsoft is much better as a company today than they were several years ago (see all of their contributions to open source these days) and Apple isn’t as glorious as the writers make them out to be (see all of their draconian terms

Yeah, check the salt contents. This stuff is quite possibly less healthy than regular meat.

So what is the point of all the Ring-bashing at Giz?  Normally, I’d assume that someone here is shorting AMZN, but then I remembered how much bloggers make.

I’m always amazed at the hardon gizmodo has for hating ring. Like every single article has mention about being able to “hack” the speakers. And yet the actual hackings were just people who reused their passwords, not anyone actually hacking ring. Do you also put the same language in every single gmail article about

Never could have imagined getting a negative response by just saying a thing I’ve experienced, and including the fact that I am not putting out an opinion. Also, it’s unusual to quote something I didn’t say. To the second response, there is no making up my mind about anything I stated. None of it was opinion. I don’t

This is an odd response. The original comment was vaguely interesting and the commenter even admitted his comment was neither here nor there. You seem like you’ve had a really bad day?
