You can darken it even more than that. Also add “Zoom” as an accessibility shortcut. But go into the zoom settings and make sure it’s “Full Screen Zoom” so it doesn’t actually zoom into anything at all and put the Zoom Filter as “Low Light”. Now you’re really dark when you zoom and reduce white point together...

I had the same issue. I run ghostery - if you run that or something similar, I was able to fix it by disabling “cXense” which was under the “advertising” category

Disregarding the fact that now the internet has become a part of everyday life (for what 80-90+% of the US - some still don’t have access) as if it were a utility, I think the only sticking point that makes sense is that Verizon/ATT/Comcast/etc have spent a ton of money laying down the pipelines for internet access…
