I think a large part of it is just that these things have momentum. England restored the monarchy after their civil war, and aside from that they never really had an anti-nobility revolution the way France or the US did, nor did they lose a major conflict that might prompt abdication the way Germany did.
But I want Her Majesty to live 4ever!
1) Completely redoing your constitutional model is not easy. Why haven’t we Americans gotten rid of the electoral college? It’s anti-democracy, after all. Having a queen with no formal power is less anti-democratic than having Presidential canidates get over 2 million more votes and still lose. Changing things is…
I don’t want to think about her dying. She’s one of the last true icons the world has left. Also, the next generations aren’t nearly as likable or dedicated to their duties. Liz is strong willed and determined. The rest of them not so much.
I am sure at his age is more moture, then our currect what ever is in charge.
I hear ya as a fellow ‘merican, but we do a lot of whack shit as a nation too.
Gotta tell you, a monarchy may not be such a bad choice, because clearly we across the pond have no idea how to run this thing. I’d gladly take my chances with Baby King over the small handed mental midget sitting in there right now.
I know it’s a bit much to ask, but I’d love to see her last ten more years so as to show up that snooty bastard Louis XIV.
I feel better then.
Let’s not upset him too much and let’s send him all our stuffed bears so he can behead them instead of us.
I’m worse. I have British citizenship and just laughed my ass off in the waiting room of a memory clinic...
I feel more guilty for snickering at this casual bombshell:
Just go and put your little sticker on what you’d like, sweetheart.
As someone who lives in the U.K. It’s hard to underestimate how much of a shock to the nation the death of the Queen will be. She’s been queen since 1952 and the majority of people in the U.K. Have never known a time without her on the throne. At a time when Brexit looks like it could split up the UK with Scotland…
I have often wondered what will happen. I don’t want her to go. She’s the last of her kind.
“I say saved by grace, saved by the grace of God,”
Well, the paint is neither as clingy nor as thick as it used to be. It puts off many fewer VOCs. I am crying crocodile tears for myself and other Americans who may have to rinse their cars more often, but will have breathable air for longer as a result. Call the Waaahmbulance!
I am ok with Trump re-painting the Oval Office with lead paint. He better make sure to do 3 or 4 coats though, and maybe he can leave a can open under the desk in case he ever needs to touch up a spot.
