Lol, maybe you forget to sign up with payroll?
Lol, maybe you forget to sign up with payroll?
Thank you. Me too!
I ran my errands last night and put on my He For She shirt this morning — a day of no spending and solidarity for me!
It’s been about the working class sacrificing the loss of a day’s pay
Sorry you are getting pushback for taking care of yourself. It’s like that announcement on planes. Put your oxygen mask on first or you are no good to anybody else. You are putting your oxygen mask on. Screw anyone who tries to make you feel bad about that.
Yea, I think also that a lot of people are new to this, and a lot of criticism early on can just be discouraging instead of helpful. People who haven’t spent a decade fighting for social justice probably aren’t going to understand why there is so much criticism from inside the left aimed at them; it just will feel…
Oh, God. Ignore that pathetic thing. It’s just vying for attention and attempting to cut you down because it has nothing better to do. You do what you need to do to successfully get through the day. We know you have to go to school and go to work. Maybe wear red. Help someone with babysitting if you can. Run an errand…
Exactly... The women who can strike are also doing it for those who can’t.
I saw that’s why I wanted to reach out. The whole purpose of this is to support one another so why ridicule someone who is trying to participate within their means? That’s like putting someone down for only donating $1 when you donated $50. That’s the kind of trolling that the trumpers accuse us of.
Also thank you for not blaming me. I’ve had several people tell me I’m not committed or what have you because I’m not participating. It’s like listen Karen, maybe if I knew about it before 3 days ago and could put in a request I’d have asked for it off but in the current climate I would have to forfeit an extra day of…
I’m usually at school from 9-1 and then at work from 3-9, but I’ll definitely be wearing red and rooting for everyone involved! Maybe there will be something on campus in my off hour between classes!
I don’t blame you. Remember to wear red. And if you want or are able to devote any actual time, check to see if your school is holding any events or seminars in honor of International Women’s Day. It’s not all about the strike regardless of what the Jezebel articles say. Some cities are having different events in the…
I agree. I’ve seen some good ideas for ways to organize it and those ideas should be passed on to the movement so they can try to implement them for future events. I have one of my own I plan to email them. I also think the media needs to do a better job. It’s not just about the strike, it’s also about International…
Exactly, and as usual they miss the entire point. Women who work aren’t going to be vilified. It’s wealthy employers who have the power to say to their female employees “You know what? You’re right, I value your contribution and to show my support, take the day off”. Or to not do that, and land themselves a boycott.…
Yes, money money money. I am a full time student who pays for school and all of my bills and I still have to feed myself. I would LOVE for the $60 or so dollars I would lose to not go to to work tomorrow to be a non-issue for me, but that’s the difference between having the lights on in my house or sitting in…
And not only have they made an effort to be accessible, this is also part of a larger movement. This is the same group who organized the March, and their 10/100 actions are usually smaller things that people can do to help out if they can’t take a day off work and/or travel, like write-ins to Congresspeople. I…
This is also the same group that planned the women’s march. And has called for huddles, and write-ins to Congresspeople, and other things that people of all socio-economic backgrounds can support. This is one arm of a movement, and if not everyone can do everything, that is fine.
I’ve already seen some! They aren’t 100% wrong, like striking is not feasible for many women, but don’t be mad at the women who can and choose to strike. We aren’t attempting to shame those who can’t, and the strike made an effort to be accessible in some way for all.
Bumping this.
This is a nice idea but I have to make my money. But.. I will refrain from spending my money in solidarity.
