I absolutely love that soundtrack, and "When You're Next to Me" especially. I remember reading a review of A Mighty Wind that complained that the music was too good for a parody, which I think is ridiculous. As with Spinal Tap, the believability of the music perfectly balanced the goofiness of the characters and

It was cool to see him in Trainwreck. He is the perfect "cute but schlubby" movie husband.

I grew up in southern Michigan, and remember seeing signs for the Dixie Highway. I alway assumed Dixie just meant "the South".

You know, when Robin Williams died it felt like losing an old friend. Steve Martin had damn well better live forever.

It really says something about Martin's draw for me that I paid money to see both of those terrible films. I hadn't realized it but he is about the only actor I've consistently gone to movies just because of his presence, starting way back with The Jerk.

While I agree it was objectively awful, that movie is got me interested in The Beatles as a kid. So that's one thing (maybe the only thing) in its favor!

My current account name came about because while teaching a class on plant cells, I mentioned jokingly that if I had another daughter I'd name her "Plasmodesmata". I'm not sure why I see that as a girl's name, but I actually sorta like it.

Funny, I had never heard of the Berenstain Bears thing until my daughter mentioned it last week for some reason, and I was totally baffled about it. I mean, I read her those books before internet conspiracies were even invented, so there is an objective and easily verifiable answer. Is this something that anyone takes

You mean "grandfathers".

That and the whole "exclusivity" contract they make even low-level employees sign. We had a JJ's move into town recently, and I make it a point to shame friends and coworkers who eat there rather than one of our much better local sub shops.

I saw Cocktail as a college sophomore, and it was so bad that it ended my teenage girl love for Tom Cruise.

Hey @avclub-808e22af6c33eea22608f30cef458844:disqus , you want to get together some time and share a Metamucil?

Timely!

In sorta related news, has anyone else heard the report that Norm MacDonald is going to be playing Col. Sanders for KFC? Sell out or self-aware wink at the absurdity of pop culture?

No evil doll will ever reach the perfect balance of kitsch and true scariness as the one from Trilogy of Terror.

#2. And go to the casino.

The pirate bar episode is my all-time favorite.

I miss Bar Rescue. My cable company took Spike off of the basic package so I no longer get it. But yeah, the ads on Spike are so bro-centered I could practically smell the testosterone wafting out of the tv.

This unfortunately reminds me of a brief cowboy phase I went through in 6th grade, about the time this movie came out and the country/pop music crossover thing was going on. I borrowed a pair of boots from my mom, got a cowboy hat from God knows where, and wore plaid shirts and jeans for a couple of weeks. I am so

Don't worry, @avclub-aecad42329922dfc97eee948606e1f8e:disqus, you can still rock in America!
