it seems like it shouldn’t be that hard to create something like that which would actually work. the problem right with all the devices right now seems to be the positioning/angle and size of the stick (analog vs hatswitch aside).

No, I mean, that’s the thing; I *do* need an analog stick. That’s the whole point of wanting a new input device. I want to have the analog movement control of a gamepad, yet retain all the inputs of a keyboard. The analog stick is the only reason I’m looking for an alternative input device in the first place;…
yeah, i’m not really sure it’ll be an issue. I have several 3DS, and the XL models are the ones I always end up taking with me and playing. My poor old tiny OG 3DS hasn’t been turned on probably in two years.
It seems like a foregone conclusion, really. Given that the Switch is both a console and a handheld, all anyone needs to do is release one game and they’ve covered both market segments.
Any game that benefits from both analog movement and mouse aiming. FPS (and FPS-like) primarily, but some third-person games would work really well with it too.
It’s designed that way so you can detach both sides and use them as individual controllers — the Dpad becomes its own set of ABXY buttons when detached. But yeah, I’m hoping they release an alternate version that has a regular ‘plus’ dpad. I mean, since it’s all modular anyway, it’s totally feasible.
well, yes, obviously. For a game like GTA, I’d switch between the wheel and a more standard keyb/mouse as needed. Different controls are optimal for different play styles, and that includes different play styles within the same game. lol
I always felt kinda hesitant to use utilities like that, primarily out of concerns for latency or other weirdness, but I’ve resorted to it on a few occasions. I have a couple older gamepads, but lately I’ve been using an XB1 controller pretty much exclusively and it’d be kinda hard to go back to my old nyko. lol
I’m not surprised. I know when RE4 got released it didn’t even support mouse, and I don’t know whether they ever got around to fixing that.
Right. Nostromo, Tartarus, Orbweaver. Problem is, unless I’m mistaken, none of them have analog thumbsticks =/
I really wanted one of the Razer game...board...things. But as far as I’m aware, they all just have hat switches for the thumb control, where I’m looking for something with an actual analog stick. I’m considering the G13, despite the degree to which I generally dislike Logitech products, as it seems to be the only one…
honestly the 12 of the Naga is kinda too much for me, for anything that isn’t an MMO at least. I’m having to use them as part of my Metroid Prime control scheme and I still end up mixing up the functions. I actually kinda want a mouse with a thumbstick on the side, that would be pretty cool.
welp, I know what peripheral i’m buying next!
What’s really awesome is when games let you use both at once. Gamepad in the left hand, mouse in the right — for FPS, it doesn’t get better than that IMHO =)
Pretty much spot-on. It’s all about using the right tool for the job.
this is amazing.
In general, keyb+mouse is simply more optimal for FPS games because of its naturally-high precision and speed, to a degree which gamepads simply can’t approach. That said, the opposite is true for some other types of games, like platformers, which work better using a gamepad with its analog movement and right-hand…
Honestly keyboard+mouse just isn’t optimal for steering controls. I find mouse steering to be incredibly awkward, personally, and I’ve never been able to get used to it. It’s one area where gamepads are just better.
I love this configuration! I discovered it a couple years ago when playing something random like Valkyria Chronicles or something, and I try putting it to use any chance I get now.
