BMW e39 M5!!!!!
BMW e39 M5!!!!!
I like me an e24. E9s are amazing in their own right but I would prefer an e24 M6 for both the amazing exterior and even more amazing interior. The e24 is when BMW perfected the driver centric interior.
Honestly, I didn’t realize they were ever for sale yet. Then again, seeing a Tesla is still special to me, I probably see one bi monthly now!
The IDx concept is the first car design in over a decade that really struck me as something I needed in my life. I made it known at the Detroit Auto show the year it was there to several Nissan reps that it was a car they needed to bring to market and it was the only car they made that was interesting.
The M8 sounds like the tuning that Mini has. In sport mode they like to throw a little extra fuel into the engine on overrun to make it pop.
2002 e39 M5. Not until the day that I saw it sitting at a Cadillac dealer did I ever consider owning an e39 M5. I was shopping for 80s, 90s, or early 00s BMWs with a stick shift. I was looking at 850s, all e36s, e34 540s and M5s as well as e39 540is, but never did it cross my mind to look at M5s. I considered M cars…
I was involved in SAE Supermileage, I feel that I learned more about applying engineering there than in any class I took. I highly recommend any SAE Collegiate event.
I fall into the second category very squarely. I graduated with many engineers that don’t know anything about turning a wrench or how to measure something properly with a set of mics. That was my biggest complaint about the ME program I went thru, no decent metrology class and no machine shop time. I am happy I…
Eh, call me an old BMW fanboy, but that new 7 does nothing for me. The e38 is a classy understated machine. The new 7 looks like every other lexus/mercedes/kia/name a brand large sedan, excluding the new Continental which does actually look unique and quite good.
My family has had two e38 740iLs over the last 16 years. They are great cars that do have weak points (cooling system), but really reward you when they are sorted out. Fuel mileage is pretty good far a large sedan, on the higway 28-30 mpg is achievable. For years and years my family was averaging 21 mpg over all of…
Mpars are just as appropriate, espcially if you want some sidewall to keep the ride.
The first e38 my parents had was quite rusty 18 months out of the factory. The second one which they own now is 16 years old and just now starting to show rust.
All of these questions are going to be answered in relation to the rotary valve e36 engine. Some answers may be slightly different on the Briggs Engines.
There are a lot of questions to answer here, I will answer them this evening. To answer some of your questions though, many key values are built around or near the stock values to keep some consistency. Our valve timing is a bit more, big muscle car cam, than stock on the e36. Unsurprisingly, it sounds very muscle…
I see that Jalopnik picked up on a very early version of my rotary valve endeavors. The one in this article is V2. V3 is a much improved version of V2. V4 is the rotary valve BMW e36.
I give thumbs up to both the Mini and e36. The Mini is super quirky but rather refined. The e36 has tons of character. The 328 especially makes a spine tingling exhaust note that will make you shift just because you want to hear it bark. I really can’t recommend the e36 enough, they are phenomenal all the way…
I test drove an abarth 500 and an R56 Mini, I thought the mini was more fun, the turbo is addicting. The Abarth felt short on power. They do look awesome in Abarth color schemes.
I really prefer the older style Bosch wipers, the multi link style, they do an awesome job conforming to the windshield. I have tried icons, I haven’t found a set that will set entirely on the windshield of a single car I own. They miss spots and one set actually chipped the paint on the hood of my car because the…

Acoustics engineering is quite the field. Doesn’t necessarily have to be sound deadening, reflecting the sound can be helpful too.
Why must it have a bulgy hood? If a Corvette can get away with a low slung angled hood, then certainly BMW can do the same an make something as sleek and understated as the original 8.
