That sort of frustration isn’t unusual for top-level athletes, and yeah...there’s something of a pattern there. When she was penalized for threatening a line official, she was a couple points away from being upset by Kim Clijsters. Her 2011 blow-up came while she was losing to Sam Stosur. She’s a fantastic player, but

Osaka was awesome and Serena doesn’t have that meltdown if Osaka isn’t blowing her off the court.

You guys do know that you don’t have to defend EVERYTHING Serena does, right? Nobody is going to call you racist or sexist to admit that yes, she broke the rules and reacted poorly. Was this a questionable time to finally enforce the coaching rule? Yes, but it’s also an issue how many tennis players (including Serena,

Gotta agree. Osaka outplayed her, no question. I feel bad she couldn’t enjoy this victory, because she earned it.

The only one that owes an apology to anyone is Serena, and she should be directly speaking to Osaka for ruining her well deserved moment.

“This is not fair.”

The umpire was right on all three of those calls. It sounds like Williams thought the “coaching” warning was rescinded because she told the umpire she’s not a cheater, but of course that’s not how that penalty works. The call is made against the coach (who admitted he was coaching from the stands), so the player can’t

I DEMAND YOU APOLOGIZE TO ME.

Can we please stop with the Serena worship? She’s a titan of tennis, a superb athlete, but she’s not without flaws, without her faults. She’s petulant, and this isn’t the first or worst instance of abusing an official in her career.

He admitted coaching in the ESPN interview immediately after the match ended.

First warning to Serena for coaching. Her own coach admitted to Pam Shriver after the match that he had indeed tried to coach her. The gesture was meant for her to approach the net more often. He thought she hadn’t noticed it, but still, it’s the attempt that matters. Players have been using this excuse (“I didn’t

You're an idiot.

This article is terrible.

You should clarify that Serena took her loss like a champ and implored the crowd to celebrate Osaka’s victory rather than shit on the poor officiating (save that for the NFL tomorrow).

This is a much nicer version of the story of the growth in ultramarathons than the one in my head: borderline sociopathic overachievers doing the most impressive sounding thing that still makes it clear they have a lot of money and time to blow. That story might be lurking in this one, too.

Yeah, this is why i dont go out in public anymore. You never know who will be in bad mood, and who has won titles in the UFC.

Umm, looks like he decked TWO guys, not just one.  EDIT - the one in the hat and greenish shirt, and the one in the white Tshirt that squared off with him.

This Rod Allen, involved a physical altercation? NEVER! (God Bless Yakety Sax)

Blame the union for the the shitty CBA! No one put a gun to Bell’s head and forced him to sign those contracts. It’s not like the Rooneys are hoarding the money for themselves. The Steelers have had less salary cap space than most teams for years. Any additional money that goes to Bell is money that isn’t going to
