As a vegetarian, I am biased in favor of the less authentic places because they're less likely to use fish sauce, meat broth, lard etc. Palette-wise too, I've seen places I like be dinged as "inauthentic" on Yelp more than once. Makes sense. The authentic version probably wouldn't pair as well with tofu etc.
