I’m fine with it. It grated on me when I watched it. I didn’t try to nitpick it. It’s just what it is. Something I wish wasn’t there on a show I really, really loved.
I’d just go with “he divorces her off-screen after learning she’s racist”.
Geri used to cover it with some great material. Her first solo album was a terrific piece of pop music. She had character, and her voice did too. Then she fucked it all up, but oh well.
It mostly seems that people like you are just ecstatic that it’s not only men. Yay, you got one. The obvious fact that sometimes women also engage in violence (sexual, domestic, you name it) does not in any way reduce the fact that yeah, it’s still mostly men who do it.

Yes, they did a lot of stuff right, but somehow they managed to mention that men should pay on dates on two separate occasions without being prompted. And, generally, a lot of Mabel’s characterization rested on “girly”.
I love Gravity Falls, but at times it has some pretty retrograde gender politics, and the whole first season arc of Dipper being obsessed with Wendy wasn’t working even in 2012. They fixed it pretty well in season two, but, uh.
