I watched one of the early Harry Potter movies this weekend with my kids and that is so much of what is going on there. The kid actors are just grinning or standing mouth agape at something that is clearly added in post.

I think age is a huge factor. I have a half-baked theory that, for a lot of pop-culture things, you have a brief window in your life (probably teens-early 20s) when you’re receptive to certain things or it’s just never going to click for you.
