About 10 years ago, by way of some very lucky circumstances, I had the unique opportunity to spend half of the day skiing with Mr. Miller out in Montana. Even in his 80's, he still had a silky smooth way about him on the slopes. What an absolute gentleman. He will be missed.
As a defensive player, Beltran was as smooth as they came. In hindsight, that may have been one of the reasons people got on him so much in NY. He moved so fluidly in the outfield that it almost appeared as if he wasn’t even trying. He never had the consistent appearance of grit and hustle in the field, frankly…

Same here! A-men.
PREACH.
Didn’t see that data, but I trust you. Good point.
In a way, it kind of feels that way to me. But I admit I’m arguing a feeling more than anything. And the shootouts are the fucking worst, for sure.
I certainly can’t argue any of that. I am prepared to admit that my argument isn’t based in really any substantial data, but more of the feeling I get watching it is a fan. I long for the early and mid-90's era of hockey, which makes sense considering that was my formative years in the sport.
To your point, I understand why they are doing it, I just don’t agree with the effect it is having on the game/teams/standings. Every point in crucial come the end of the season. So to lose out on points in a shootout seems, to me, to be losing the essence of the game. I just hate it.
I absolutely hate the new OT rules in the NHL. Call me a purist, but games should not be won and lost in a god damn skills competition. Don’t even get me going on shootouts... Play a 10 minute OT period (4 on 4 if they absolutely have to do something gimmicky), and make it sudden death. No goal? TIE. Thats right, I…
Ouch. Straight through the wickets and right in the Googly.
+1 Resurrection.
Maybe I’m amazed by this comment. +1
