My problem is that I’m constantly scuffing the shit out of my shoes. I buy decent mid-priced leather pumps but I swear the first time I put them on I fall down a set of concrete steps and tear them up. Black shoe polish is my friend but it only goes so far.

See, that makes it totally worth it. Like, I’m not a bag person, but once I bought a subdued Kate Spade purse and it lasted FOREVER (and still looks like new), I’ve been convinced that they’re worth it. But with shoes, it’s the comfort I’d worry about. But then, I’d never be able to manage the spike heels. Hell, I

I agree. I hate to admit it, but my designer shoes are the ones that are most comfortable and last me the longest. I had an accident years ago that left me with some foot, ankle, and lower leg issues to this day. It was actually a friend of mine who was a PT that said to me that if I was going to INSIST on wearing

Those are the ones Carrie gushes over in that episode where she gets drunk at Vogue!!! And she says she thought they were a myth! Lucky you :)

Ooooohhhhhh, the maryjanes. I wanted those so badly! I own a pair of Manolo’s that are best described as high heeled sandals. Incredibly pretty and they are super comfortable. It’s weird, they fit so well that I could run a mile in these babies.

those mary janes are like the holy grail of monolo’s! congrats!

Thanks for the feedback, Bleeeep. I think I will go for it. I have my eye on this one:

As someone who never pays full retail and doesn’t buy into the whole designer shoe thing, I have to say that Manolos won me over. Louboutins are the most uncomfortable shoes in the world, so don’t ever get those, but if you ever see manolos on huge markdowns get it! I just got my first one and it fits perfectly and is

exactly. if the displacement partially comes from the area being more desirable and less crappy, so that it draws the attention of people who are less broke.... how do you make the area better, ... basically without people who might have a choice, wanting to live there?

See, this is the sort of thing that I have trouble with.

its like, heres a dangerous, shitty neighborhood with atrocious property values, that is a blight and social danger for the city and its people in general, and for its residents it has nearly/practically ghetto-like conditions.

lets make it better! .... yay, new

I don’t have the answers to all your questions, but I will say that gentrification doesn’t necessary cause safety. There’s been a pretty uniform, nationwide fall in violent crime since the early 1990s. Other developed countries have seen the same pattern with different starting years. No one really knows why. Some

“There were crack peddlers, gangsters, and mentally ill patients..”

Well it is gentrification. It just goes to show that gentrification is not bad /all/ the time.

Logan Square has certainly become “safer” over the past decade, but with that increase in safety comes rising housing costs, which just push the poors out to less safe areas. So like, yeah, it’s safer for relatively affluent white people. But now the previous residents lose their community and have to rebuild in areas

Hail to the guardians of the watchtowers of the east

Oh man, my best friend and I sometimes do the “I drink to my sisters” bit with iced tea and crack up.

This is definitely gonna work. When those hippies levitated the Pentagon, it changed everything.

Are these also time traveling witches? Because if they wanted to stop gentrification in Logan Square they’re about twenty years too late.

As someone who lives a mile away from Logan Square...... LOL

Wouldn’t the witches be considered gentrifiers by many? Or do they define gentrifiers as “people who richer than me?”
