iMac 8,1 24" (early 2008) still trucking here. Keyboard replaced in 2009, swapped 500GB HD for 1TB and maxed out RAM (6MB) in 2010, replaced power supply and swapped internal HD fro SSD in 2014. Run CS6 and do lots of research and writing, plus on 24/7 churning Seti@home. It’ll do until it doesn’t.

Just turn off wifi/unplug ethernet. I use an Appletv for streaming. Is Apple tracking me? Of course. It comes down to do I trust Visio or Apple more. I don’t trust Apple, but I trust them more than Visio.

nvAlt set to save as discrete text files, and FromScratch for temp notemaking, both sync’d with dropbox. TextWrangler for text scrubbing or just cracking open stubborn shit. This is a layered multi-app approach with low overhead and they’re there when I need them. Simple, redundant and highly productive.

My Vizio was doing fine until a report said their tv’s were calling home with your viewing habits. Now I use AppleTV for netflix etc. Also, Vizio won’t show the clock when the network is disconnected. pricks.
good point. I didn’t account for tax, health or pension contributions an employer would make over the basic wage. Also, as you suggest, parents would not pay that rate if it were a full time position.
