Others will be wet sanding theirs every weekend to keep the surface rust at bay and swear up and down they’ve done nothing and it’s still perfect.

I’m guessing this issue became obvious during the development of the Cybertruck, and that’s why Tesla suddenly got in the business of selling wraps.

Others are in favor of their Cybertrucks developing orange stains, saying that they’re looking forward to the patina the stainless steel may develop.

Its almost as if,... bare steel may have been a poor choice for an automobile finish?

Ok he may have cheaped out on the stainless steel here, but when the time comes to go to Mars I’m sure he’ll use nothing but the best materials.

Material Scientist & Engineer / metallurgist here. Tesla is using a custom cold rolled 300 series stainless steel, so similar to type 304 and 316 austenitic stainless steel. Marketing name “ultra-hard 30X”.

I guess Trace will be upgrading his fleet at some point, then?
