The sexist play-book seems to be pretty equally split between the sections "women: conniving Jezebels" and "women: fragile idiots", to be deployed as the situation determines.

Exactly. Whilst Casey is obviously a massive outlier, when women say that they aren't cut out to be mothers, maybe we should take them at their word, rather than trying to foist some sentimental, feminine ideal on them.

I wish that I'd been around to enjoy the scandal of the Bakkers' collapsing empire.

I don't know about the "Aunts", but plenty of literary critics assumed that Serena Joy was modelled on Schlafly. Her religious aspects however were likely drawn from Tammy Faye Bakker, who was a very influential evangelical during the early eighties. In the epilogue, it's even revealed that "Serena Joy's" real name

Also, the way the anti-abortion crowd carries on about these mythical forced abortions, you'd think that doctors were snooping around like Dick Dastardly, slipping misoprostol into the unattended coffee mugs of unsuspecting women, whilst twirling their cartoon villain moustaches.

Considering the vastly greater risks entailed in carrying even a wanted pregnancy to term, shouldn't there also be "a woman's right to know" site about the awfulness of pregnancy and childbirth?

Don't worry, in a few years she'll suddenly skip forward a few decades and start playing Seth Rogen's mother.

The fuck...what?

Stream of "conciseness"? If only.

I want to live in your sweetly-quirky, indie comedy.

You steal a pre-trained one from the Russian circus.

I do. I'm just procrastinating. ;)

"Lollards" would make a great name for an association of procrastinators that meet up whenever a member has a fast-approaching deadline.

In Romney's America it will.

On a purely practical level, I can't help but wonder how they're preserving the placenta. I mean, a layer of glue/paint/varnish will protect it to some extent and contain evidence of rotting, but it won't actually stop the putrefaction process.

This is fascinating! Forget coursework and forget my eternal soul; it would be criminally negligent of me not to heart you for this.

Thanks again, especially for the links!
