What value does a high school diploma have in America? Is it just pride/sentimental value (in which case holding the diploma back is vaguely acceptable, if mean minded) or can it actually affect the pupils future job opportunities and so forth (in which case it is not)?

My mum used to do this. They call it monokini in France, and it isn’t unusual there (even for grown women sometimes, but that’s a bit different). Is that not done in America?

See, this may just be that I’m not great at facial expressions, but she doesn’t look adoring to me. She looks slightly patronising/exasperated in a kind way like she’s thinking “Oh bless”. Mind you I don’t watch the show and from what I’ve read that is (sadly) wishful thinking.

Depressing that none of the books were about women. I suspect this is a case of assuming that the male viewpoint is the default way to view the world.
