The Victorians were REALLY thorough about the language of flowers. A cactus means “warmth”, though my book doesn’t specify emotional or thermal :)

Ooh, and I have a copy of Kate Greenaway’s The Language of Flowers

I like flowers outside, though they don’t seem to have much point other than prettiness when cut and my hayfever vocally resents many of them.

Yaay!

We read some on class when I was 12 - the one with the the cyanide-tea-providing landlady and the West Indian hotel with a customer who liked to bet on peoples fingers. It was that ever so special combination of wonderful and slightly traumatising.

Thanks - that is absurd. At least the amount is rising fast?

Thank you! I'm a Monstrous Regiment girl myself but I do like Sybil and her bravery.

Wow, that is a lot! Thanks for replying

Excuse my ignorance, but how much does an American college education cost? (We pay £9000 a year plus board and lodging in England, so I assumed when I saw the headline that $80,000 would be more than enough. Clearly I was wrong :( )

Oh that's actually heartwarming! Seriously though, there should be a charity like that. Some people in a thread higher up were talking about LGBT ect youth in care (who already make up a disproportionally high number of children in care) getting moved from intolerant foster home to intolerant foster home - I'm sure

So this is never going to be seen since I've not commented before, but "campus" isn't really the right term for a Cambridge college. It's a collegiate university, so it's made up of lots of small, independent colleges, each of which has its own Master and staff of professors and lecturers and stuff, plus students
