If I follow the logic of this post, if the KKK comes and burns a cross in your yard, you’re the real racist?

Because the vast majority of ciswomen prefer to be called women and not people who give birth, which many find dehumanizing. We can make space for one oppressed minority without stepping on another.

It’s not just you. I worked for a midwifery organization and they explicitly put out a memo saying that their efforts to make language more inclusive would not involve removing the term ‘woman’ from the language, because the midwifery profession is very much aware of its history and that it provided a counterpoint to

Well said. Thank you. And I like your use of “And”, which is far more inclusionary than eliminating the word woman.

I’m fine with “women and birthing people” or “women and menstruators” or any other term people want, but I’m not ready to give up on woman/women because women are still struggling to achieve equal rights and the word’s existence doesn’t preclude that of people with other gender identities, but they can be listed in

Walker is missing the point. This has nothing to do with being silenced on the subject of abortion. If you make threats about the government you will get a visit from HLS. This has always been the case. It is their job to investigate you and make sure that you aren’t actually going to burn anything down.

In fairness, it’s reasonable to think that many Texans today believe the true horror of slavery is very much where Black people ended up being located

Good on you President Biden! This is what you should be doing with your office! You have to lead by signaling intent, then put pressure on Congress to do the right thing. The ball is ultimately in Congress’s court, but the Presidency can be a powerful tool for raising the issue and putting light on what needs to be

Rolling back Roe wasn't polarizing enough? Polarizing for who?!

This is just States Rights

It’s shit like this that leads to secession/dissolution of the union. I don’t even know if that’s a bad thing at this point.

Ok, some clarification may be in order here regarding the context.

First of all, the only thing Biden can promise is a nomination. He can’t promise any votes from the Democratic caucus, and he can’t promise that no Democratic Senator won’t filibuster the nomination (and under existing rules any Democratic Senator can

My state is basically red, but there are just enough Democrats to be able to filibuster the hell out of shit.

Sorry to hijack your post as an attempt to get out of the grays, but is anyone else suddenly having issues with clicking the “comments” link on posts? Is this a new attempt at getting more clicks?  Half the time I come to Jez it’s for (what’s left of) the comments...

How would this supposed plan not run afoul of the Hyde Amendment? And even if it didn’t in what universe would it not immediately be tied up in the courts eventually finding its way to an obviously very hostile SCOTUS?

why wait? How come these willing adopters have not already reached out to adoption agencies? There are thousands of children currently needing to be adopted, why not start there?

They’ll just refuse to take up the case.  This isn’t a Supreme Court anymore, it’s a theocratic cabal.

They’re way more likely to file charges against the mothers, for “knowingly putting the unborn in danger” by showing up to any protest. (looking around, I guess I should’ve checked the other pendings here first)

There’s pretty much no chance that would get past the qualified immunity defense. It’s more likely a protester in that situation would be charged for endangering their “child.” The whole situation is supremely fucked.
