Smug Canadian here. I know no one asked for my opinion, but here it is anyway.

Weinstein is a very good follow on Twitter.

“You have your family. I have mine” Then a bunch of guns below it.

“Gun fatalism” reminds me of a mindset that I hear in a lot of conversations with people raised in and around Appalachia: that life is hard and the forces of nature are set against you and cruelly indifferent. Shit happens to people. It happens a lot. It’s fire and flood and mudslides and tornados, and now it’s guns

I keep seeing conservative people I grew up with post stories about that. “Thanks to the armed guard(s?) at the school, only two students were shot and killed!” All the while I’m thinking THAT’S STILL STUDENTS THAT WERE SHOT AND KILLED!

“Water discovered to be wet”
“Balls roll down a slope”
“Kitchen salt is NaCl”
“The lion sleeps tonight, is only a whim away, a whim away, a whim away.”

Dear Fox, Why aren’t we hearing from the pro-bomb movement? You know, the people who support that bomber in Austin?

so they’re ok with kids being “mouthy” if they are just parroting alt right bullshit? cool

Fox has a point. Why aren’t we hearing BOTH sides of this story.
As an adult professional, like many Fox News contributors, I have an opinion that their network is full of clown-ass frauds who are fueled by dog piss. It’s really their only option to let me on their network to express by dissenting opinion. It’s for

They don’t mention the part where you pour water out in front of thirsty women and children or track 12 year olds across a desert for hours. But yeah, hiking and stuff

It’s the very same people who say ‘why didn’t he just comply’ that are the first to say the ‘cops feared for their lives.’

But, but... bootstraps! And hard work! And skills! And education! And a winning attitude!

Wow, that is some spectacularly bad insurance. I slipped and broke my leg 2 months ago- ER, soft cast, dozen x-rays and followups with ortho: out of pocket was $1000.

I have two staff members currently battling cancer - one with cervical, one who just had tumours removed from her adrenal glands and liver.

It should also be noted how being out of work or declaring bankruptcy due to medical issues impacts your future job prospects. Many companies will not hire people who have declared bankruptcy or have long periods of unemployment. And good luck getting in front of someone to explain why.

I have a family member who was diagnosed with breast cancer. The way America deals with serious illness and the workplace is worse than something out of Alice in Wonderland: she could continue in chemotherapy, which made her too ill to work, as long as her insurance held out, which was predicated on her keeping her

I don’t think America truly understands how expensive keeping 20% of its population alive as long as possible will be. Like a fifth of boomers don’t have retirement savings and things might get real sad real fast. If only we had a way to pool our resources to prevent widespread human suffering.

When you design a system so that the monetary rewards accrue to insurance companies and sociopathic pharma bros, then of course it makes no difference whether you are insured or not. You are simply grist for the capitalist mill.
