This is my biggest grievance with renting! I’m fortunate that my current neighbors are pretty quiet, but I’ve had drunken tyrannosaurs living above me that I can only assume entertained themselves by running into metal garbage cans.

I own now, but my biggest problem with renting wasn’t necessarily financial so much as logistic — it’s a lot harder to rent a place that is freestanding, and shared-wall neighbors are so often obnoxious. Maybe I just had bad luck, but every time I had a shared wall (or ceiling) the noise was ... significant at times…
