V12 Toyota Century. It’s incredibly rare, even in Japan, has an understated but noticeable presence. Even though most people would likely not even know what it was, they would realize it is something special.

Sadly so. I wish I had left after college but I hoped if I stayed, I could work to make it better. Now my folks are of the age they are starting to need me close.
Adam, Daimler has a much longer history than being a high end Jaguar. They had actually been an independent brand until they were acquired by Jaguar in the 60’s and made some excellent cars. They were not directly related to the Daimler-Benz company, but had licensed the name from Gottlieb Daimler in 1896. Once they…
I have 2 of the previous generation, a 4 and a V6. The 2.5 V6 is generally a good engine and the 3S, although not exactly powerful is just about bulletproof. My 4 has almost 280k on it and still runs like it always has. My V6 is super clean and has just under 90k on it.
It’s really only an issue with the XV20 and newer ones. Neither of my V20 have a dent and I rarely see an xV10 with a dent. Just the 97+ ones
Gold Limited badges are beneath the Crown. In Japan historically the Crown had trim names like “Royal Saloon” and “Super Saloon” and I am very disappointed to see it wearing modern very US specific trims like XLE, Limited, and Platinum. Many of their models had wickedly grand trim names back int the day as did many…
Toyota dealers don’t order anything. They get what Toyota sends them and if a customer wants a specific vehicle, they do dealer trades. That’s how they have done it for decades. The local dealer did it for my folks more than once in the 80's and 90's.
You do realize the XJ Cherokee introduced in 1984 was unitized body, as is the Grand Cherokee right?
Mainline production yes, until the Lexus LS was introduced. In Japan, Lexus didn’t exist until 2006 and the cars sold in the US as Lexus were Toyotas in Japan. The LS400 was the Celsior, which was slightly higher than the Crown of the era, but appealed to a different demographic. And of course there is the ultra low…
I’ve seen that article too many times to count. People like to send it to me or tag me in a post because I have a 1990 Camry I’ve been driving since 95. 32 years old, just under 280,000 miles, and has only broken down once in all these 27 years. In 2009 the ignition coil failed. Only time she has left me…
This is a 95 so it is the aluminum block 1MZ, not the iron block 3VZ.
Or longer in that shape!
Same. I personally prefer and have 2 of this car’s predecessor (one DX 4 cylinder and one LE with the V6), but were I in the market for a daily and lived somewhere it wouldn’t get ruined in the winter, I would take it in a heartbeat! The sedans are still something I see in my area despite the winters, but these didn’t…
The problem in my area with guys with diesel pickups is rolling coal. I wish they would get nailed for modifying their fuel systems for that crap!
Although I am nostalgic and have several later 80's Toyotas, and even with the fact my folks had a 79 equipped just like this except theirs was red, at this price, no dice.
I still carry my 6th gen 80GB classic everywhere I go. In my older cars I use a tape adapter and in the newer one, I use the AUX jack. I lost it in my partner’s car a few years ago and was in a panic until we found it as I can’t imagine anything that could replace it.
Wow Andy, I feel really old. My sister had one of these as her first NEW car after college. Hers was a2005 1.8T in that light green. I wish I had been in the position to buy the car she traded for it... a 91 Celica GT in super red with a manual, but I already had 2 cars at that point. My first car, which I still…
The A80 may be faster, but I love our A70 Turbo targa. Hoping it warms up enough here soon to pop that top off.
I agree with you. I knew it was a long shot, but I had really hoped they would replace the Avalon with a Crown sedan (although I’ve not been a huge fan of the styling of the last few gens of the Crown.
Same. The tweed in my 90 Camry is still in excellent overall shape and comfortable too.
