That first sentence! I (a lady) am mostly unfazed by chivalry, but a big fan of kindness and etiquette. I would say I notice awkward, unnecessary boasts of chivalry as often as I notice it as a kindness, and am typically made to feel like I’m less of a proper lady when I don’t react accordingly.

My friend’s recent wedding had a lovely gluten-free funfetti cake (made from scratch, of course). But if she feels the need to look elsewhere, might I suggest a tart? I made this one for my birthday TWICE this year (for work and for friends) and even jazzed it up with some gold flakes. It is a triumph.

Picky eaters are tough! I will say, I’m lactose intolerant and probably put up with more cheese-based casseroles than I should have. Still, one of the things I miss most about having roomies is shared meals.

If you DO go full co-op...
I’ve lived in larger groups twice (5 girls for a summer job and 6 people for a year in AmeriCorps), and while we did have normal kitchen sharing problems, splitting dinners made all of us work a lot less, helped us bond, and provided healthy, great meals. Here are my tips, if you’ve got an

This always irks me. Not to wax about my own experience, but...

Hey, everyone has their own kink

Not a health issue, but depending on the size, I would think the concern would be leashes and dogs underfoot for servers and guests - even if the dog is “just outside” leashes can get in the way

Not quite a “gift”, but my sister had a guest bring a small wedding cake.

Chloe x Halle are wearing a damn piece of art and they manage to look comfortable (both for the weather and with their IDGAF expressions). Good on them.

“The Alt-Right has been described as... well, if you watch the news...”

My aunt is a cafeteria lady and she often talk about “Mrs.Obama” and her health initiatives taking away many of the kid’s favorite dishes. Of course she’s in PA Dutch country, so the idea of childhood nutrition is still making sure you have as many calories of real food (meat, potatoes, milk) as possible.

For a full year in high school I bought a “cheese” filled soft pretzel, a cup of strawberries (fresh, somehow), and a pack of lance cracker sandwiches and/or a little debbie dessert of some sort, depending on the day. On special occasions I would get the regular lunch (fish sandwiches, pot pie, etc).

In high school I bent down to pet my cat and threw my back out.

Another counterpoint:

I’m a big fan of freezing berries and such when they’re about to push past ripe (since I’m single, this happens a lot with my produce). They’re perfect for chilling white wine or rose, and makes the cheap stuff a lovely time-release sangria.

Actually, they posted a photo from their Twitter (note the credit/framing) which is a public platform with different usage rights (hence the credit/framing).

Interesting! I had heard that Aldi repackaged other name-brand products, so that’s not as surprising.

It’s a bit of a reach, but to be fair subsidizing employee’s paychecks with tips absolutely saves the restaurant money that allows them to invest in atmosphere, wine curation, etc

I’m guessing the standard changed because the pay rate largely hasn’t. Note the guy above who posted a 15 year old paycheck making $2 and some change / hour.

I hope she also has a family macaroni salad recipe, and the son likes that one better
