OneHandedSquire thinks the post office is good

I was pretty surprised there wasn’t mention of the recent Friday Night Massacre, either. I know it’s hard to keep our eyes on any one thing in the Trump hellscape, but the post office is one of those rare universal goods that we should all be shouting from the rooftops about its impending destruction.

Yeah. I’m just glad we didn’t also have a heat wave. I genuinely would have worried about old timers and sick folks having heat strokes. It’s bad enough AC isn’t as universal up here as it is in the South.

Not to stoke your already reasonable concerns, but I’m guessing your fire season will resemble Connecticut’s response to hurricane Isaias, which was far from the worst natural disaster we’ve weathered. I was without power for four days last week and some people still don’t have any power because COVID is limiting how

I posted this in an earlier article, but it’s a red alert kind of thing, so here it is again: The fuckery down at USPS is now targeted squarely at the election. We shouldn’t be surprised; this was always the reason destroying the post office went from reaganite wank material to the smash and grab we’re witnessing.

It’s the surge in mail-in ballots due to COVID. Dismantling USPS went from a self-destructive (rural, Republican areas are going to feel this fuckery the hardest), masturbatory, right-wing, “there is no such thing as society” fantasy to a top priority, since it presents a real opportunity to discard votes against

Yeah. An opinion piece over on Salon I read this morning put some perspective into the changes in the Democratic Party. Voters want stability for the big, high profile offices, but there’s an surge of insurgent candidates who are done with the mealy-mouthed corporatist approach. Will it arrive soon enough and be able

Right?! Where’s the @ toward Trump for hiring a gremlin invested in UPS to raze one of our last few true public goods into the dirt?

I think you’re right about that.  Violence on election day seems inevitable at this point. Shit is well and truly fucked.

Dang, I really thought that was a Mark Ryden for a second. It’s a very similar style... and name. Freaky. I now have a new conspiracy theory that Mark Bryan is secretly the nom de plume Ryden does less subtle political stuff under.

Careful with titles like that in the middle of the night! I thought he had nuked California or some slightly more plausible crazy shit that isn’t just impotent manifestations of his narcissism.

It’s B-A-N-A-N-A-S, especially since this will definitely hurt Trump’s supporters the most. And when my small, rural post office closes and/or shipping rates get quadrupled, I’m certain there won’t be one less Trump sign or flag flying around here. If Trump going full Jim Jones, telling his followers to go maskless to

The Trump regime might be a gross failure in government, but it makes an excellent piece of dadaist performance art.

Yeah, if their plan is to distance themselves from Trump after acquitting him in the Senate and going full class-war on middle and lower class Americans, at the height of a pandemic, that’s threatening to cause a full-on Great Depression sequel, well, best of luck.

One of her professors from Georgetown paints an interesting portrait of McNinny as a dominionist Christian with a martyrdom complex. I’m not sure if it was Mark or John who had Jesus saying, “He who lies for the rapist and bigot in power shall inherit the kingdom of heaven.” But I’m sure it’s in there, somewhere.

I get medicine through the mail. I’m lucky enough that I can cope with the delays (I’m so sorry for the people who can’t), but I’m terrified they’ll follow through on the other suggestions that have been floated by the regime to “fix” USPS. If they quadruple rates or close my rural post office, I really don’t know

Dan Patrick offering up grandma to the invisible hand is another illustrative moment that will stick with me.

Apparently, the Obamas acquired the rights to his book and are adapting it as part of their Netflix deal.

I get why he doesn’t. We’ve got a violent, reactionary movement in this country that exploded when he became president. The last thing Obama wants to do is stoke the chaos by exerting too much of his influence and feeding into their worst fears. We need to break the fever before we can safely have Obama as a Jimmy
