Last year, I had a tech and the owner of a local HVAC company working on my gas furnace. I mentioned replacing the gas furnace with a heat pump. They tried to talk me out of it, basically turning down $17K worth of business. I thought, “This must be a Trump thing.”

Consumer behavior is rarely rational. The current cost of gas is considered “normal”, meaning people won’t really examine different options when buying a car. They’ll go with the status quo because it’s known and easy. It will take a dramatic increase in gas prices before people truly consider switching.
