The problem is people keep buying it. For every one person who said "You're doing something I don't like, I won't support that" there were a hundred behind them who "just wanted to play the game".

They can increase the graphics, texture sharpness, subsurface scattering, depth of field, higher resolution shadows. These all sounds like real buzz words, but the fact is only when you see them in action you can understand the effect.
