Purdue grad here (‘04). Can recommend at least a dozen free surface parking spots that are perfectly suitable for mechanical chicanery. Source: from 1999 - 2004, with assistance from a tree limb that overhung the street and a chain hoist, my friends and I pulled quite a few engines in front of 690 Waldron.

I saw I think one guy who went 4.7 V8 in his 3rd gen 4Runner... I need to do some more googling to check the 4.0 V8 fitment, I never knew that. That sounds better than just chucking another 3.4 V6 in there when the time comes... haha.

That’s awesome. These things are pretty legendary. I had an ‘86 4x4 pickup that rusted itself in half at 280k, and sold an ‘89 4Runner w/22RE in it at 300k to a guy who drove it into the ground and junked it in the Bay Area (CA). All I did to that ‘89 was rebuild the transmission at 250k miles and the engine at

I agree. Plus, I’m extremely lazy, so that’s a factor. It leaks a small amount of oil from the rear main. But nothing a little brake-kleen and cat litter can’t take care of.

To a car guy/gal, this would be a huge deal... but I gotta be honest, in LA, this is barely a blip on the radar compared to some of the routine chaos/insanity/advertising gimmickry that happens on a daily basis.

Sounds like they’re recording audio... any idea if that’s legal w/o the other party’s consent/awareness in CA? Even in a public area?

Like parking enforcement... who has driven past at least 3 times now in the past 10 minutes.

Oh yeah that cluster o’people from a few minutes ago? Totally.

Hey I didn’t know it was a bolt-in swap, that’s great. What manner of electronic-wizardry is needed for such a swap?

Uh oh, parking enforcement... just drove by and... did nothing?

The number of people just walking past this buried in their smartphones completely perplexes me. I’d be all over this damn thing, taking pictures, calling my friends...

I DD a 20 year old 4Runner and yeah, this thing is remarkable. 349,000 miles and counting, daily driven on a 45 mile round trip.

My observation was directed more at Mr. Orlove. Your render is gorgeous. Question though - the engines that came on these cars from the factory had the exhaust ports on the opposite side from that which is depicted in your render... I presume yours is of a swapped car? If so, how detailed is your car customizer

No need to “render” a rally-esque 240z, when they’ve existed now for 45+ years.

This just in: daily driving a fleet of 20 to 70+ year old cars lowers your standards for what passes as a “not terrible” vehicle.

Source: the average age of the 6 cars in my yard/driveway/garage is 20.6 years. I recently rented a Chevy Sonic and it felt like a luxury supercar space ship from the future when compared

Going by that, my best year was roughly 1948... 30+ years before I was born.

Good point!

Yeah, but I always wanted to think automotive enthusiasts, or at least the type who would watch Wheeler Dealers, were above this kind of behavior.

Edd has been doing this for the past 14 years. Just watch an older epsiode of Wheeler Dealers - he’ll always have a long-sleeve under a short sleeve, or what you saw on this segment. I always tried to justify it in my head that he layers up because of how dirty he must get working on cars... but perhaps it’s just his

This would also be a good time to replace your valve cover gaskets, as they’re also a common failure item on these. By common I mean every 20 years or so.
