I’m hard pressed to think of a movie I’ve watched more times than Clue.

I love Dancer in the Dark, and based on my understanding of Dogme, he isn’t really following those rules with the numbers in that movie. They’re not handheld, the colors are brighter, the shots are wider.

I still resent Lars von Trier for Dogme’ing the musical sequences in Dancer in the Dark because 1) those are some of Bjork’s best songs, and 2) he had the technical chops and creativity to pull off something great.

They’re bad because they’re not campy enough. Or they break up the flow of things just for the sake of having a musical number. Or they delude themselves into believing certain actors/actresses can sing well enough, instead of going the route of having a professional singer do the lines and dub them in.

Meanwhile, Republicans think it’s mean to confront them over their politics in restaurants.

They should do an Eighth Grade/Mid90s double feature for parents.

If Beale Street Could Talk was the biggest shock for me. I thought that one was a lock for Best Picture. Such a beautiful film. I’d already written off the rest of my favorites like Sorry to Bother You and Leave No Trace, but that one stung.

“She was the best part of .... Mary Poppins Return”

Also, what does Emily Blunt have to do to win over Oscar voters?

Bummed Eighth Grade wasn’t nominated but the Academy rarely nominates horror movies.

Might Won’t You Be My Neighbor? have been hurt by none of the non-American voters caring at all about Mr. Rogers? I don’t know how big a segment of the voters that is.

I was wondering when someone was finally going to mention Disobedience. People think 2004 was Rachel’s year because of The Notebook and Mean Girls, but it was really 2o18. She delivered two back-to-back career best performances in opposite genres with Game Night (comedy) and Disobedience (drama). I can’t BELIEVE she

I appreciate the attention given to her line read of “Oh no, he died!”, as it had me rolling with laughter for several minutes.

Rewatching Unbreakable this week in preparation for this movie, I was really struck by how good Willis is in it. It’s a quiet, wounded performance but also one where you feel the bond between him and his son and the basic decency of this guy who really doesn’t understand himself. I wish we got that Willis more often.

“The cosmic turtle has reportedly been written out

Because there’s so many shitty movies critics are prone to carry on about marginally decent ones. That’s the reason.

Trumbo was really disappointing, but my elderly relative loved it so there you go...I thought his performance was very self-indulgent...and of course he did at least one crappy looking hitman movie but he’s not at the point where he’s John Cusacking and wearing a black baseball hat in every direct to video movie yet.

bryan cranston is not a movie star. yes, he was great in breaking bad, malcolm in the middle and seinfeld, but he clearly doesn’t know how to pick a good movie script or should stick to tv.

He was decent in Isle of Dogs.
