I wont argue with the appeal of those cars. I love many of them as well. However they’re usually a very different type of car. This is purely American boat cruising with a mound of torque. Along with at least in the Monte a very unique styling, love it or hate it.
I will defend your right to make your car look like shit too until it poses a risk to others. Which I’m more than willing to bet this car does. Crap suspension angles probably a shit ton of bump steer and riding on a narrow patch of tire? Not to mention a tire well beyond its manufactures suggested limits? The picture…
If they’re willing to trust it with that level of power and assuming they didn’t touch the internals this bodes well for getting a mild tune on a US spec GTI.
so uhh... can someone explain to me how or why this is better than just turning the freaking wheel? I feel like this is over engineering something just because. We could turn a wheel directly (ok not even true for a car like this) connected to the wheels or I could flip a lever and let a computer with a myriad of…
Bingo. here’s a top tip..
STOP BREAKING THE LAWS ASSHOLES.
and maybe, you wont get wrongfully arrested...I mean unless you’re black of course.
Well he wasn’t totally innocent....
Good point on the Sy/Ty duo I had forgotten about those special children. It was just the last exciting buick I could think of, and most divisions by then had all been homolgated/using the same parts pin.
I think “damn fine” suits them. I’m curious what you compare them to? For the price I don’t think you can do much better for basic transportation. I don’t recall anything of that vintage being very stellar in the interior quality department. Parts are beyond cheap. The things are reliable. They rest on the scale…
With a 5.3L V8. Also the previous gen eventually had the bullet proof 3.8L Supercharged. You make not appreciate the power of the mullet but these were/still are damn fine cars. Specially considering they cost pennies.
Mother fuckin’ Hall n Oates. Now that’s how you start a day off.
I’ve only ever seen one in person at a car show in Charlotte. Fantastic piece of redneck GM history. Love it.
Grandpa. 85 or 86... Sold it to a non-English speaking family of Mexicans in the mid 90’s for $500 bucks. I still recall it to this day as one of the worst cars I’ve ever had the displeasure of riding in. I can’t remember the myriad of problems it had over its years or why my grandpa clung to that car but I’ll always…
I’m still trying to find these “bloated mess” ones. Having driven and been driven in several base models and GXP/Redline variants I think they’re fantastic. Visibility is superb (with the top down DUH). It’s quick with the turbo and has massive tires for its size (245’s stock).
The proudest 50% of my life.
Thank god they freed those slaves from being forced to be grid girls... oh wait...
Huge Top Gear fan here. Love their work. Clarkson is a huge asshole and got what he deserved. That being said, Sometimes in this life talent outshines right/wrong. He will no doubt find more work (if he wants it) without even trying. BBC just lost themselves a cash cow. Even if the reasons were just.
