I don’t drink most days now (which is great, because it makes my weekend outings super cheap) but back in grad school when I was drinking more heavily, I’d think about whether I was dependent or not. Then I’d notice that there would be periods where I’d go days or weeks without a drink, and stop worrying.

In alcohol’s defense, I’ve done some pretty stupid shit while completely sober, too.

Remember when she suggested people drink more water and people lost their shit in outrage? As if we don't all know that we should be drinking more water. Literally the most innocuous health recommendation of all time.

First road trip with my sister's forever-man we were joking about what a brat my teenage nephew was being and how we were going to leave him on the side of the road at the next bear crossing sign. My nephew knew we were kidding, but her honey obviously was not sure. When we started coming upon a bear crossing sign we

Just to put this in perspective, 7 year olds in Japan are expected to walk to school or the shops by themselves and even take the subway in Tokyo. This is extreme, but parenting norms are totally different from the U.S. and Europe or Canada.

I remember in middle school I made a shit ton of paper ninja stars. I walked home everyday and still had my stars. You guessed it, I flung them at passing cars. I flung one at a black SUV and I hear a loud screeching. I look back and see the SUV do a u-turn and speed up. I fucking booked it. Of course the SUV caught

I bet he never throws rocks at cars again.

I wish people would stop assuming that the perpetrators of these crimes are mentally ill and would have benefitted from treatment. Some people are just angry, malevolent, motherfuckers. Evil is real people.

I work at a very large university and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a metal detector on campus. I work in a building that is restricted access and we still have public hours (public just can’t get to certain areas of the building) and no metal detectors anywhere.

I work for a major state university. We have a completely open campus and no metal detectors. This could absolutely happen here.

I doubt that anyone could possibly have an idea. I mean, he even thanked the victim (his former advisor) for his help and support for his dissertation.

Not to mention the hundreds of students on lockdown yesterday and their family, friends, etc. waiting to hear word that they’re ok. These events change so many lives and yet all we seem to hear about is the body count and speculations as to motive. Not that that’s not important, I’m just mad that this crap keeps

Grad School can be a lonely existence. I was 24-25 when I completed grad school, but I was lucky even to have a girlfriend and was liked enough by my small group of fellow grad students in my field that we hung out and did a lot of nerd things and complained about similar classes and work. But if you are in grad

1. I feel like all I’ve read these past two days is articles on men killing women and it’s so depressing. It NEVER ENDS.

2. I can’t help ogling that hot man in the pic, front far right.

She didn’t have sex with a student, she raped a student. Language is important.

He said something about her having an entourage, which everyone else who’s worked with her says she doesn’t.

This all made me so bummed because I loved Once and really enjoyed Begin Again too. Disappointed that the director is such a gigantic asshat. I’m really glad that people are immediately coming out for Keira’s sake though. This dude sounds like he tried hitting on her or expected her to fawn over him or something.

Oh, absolutely. But it isn’t their fault that they’re a product of their environment. I was taught growing up to trust God and pray about everything. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized you have to actually do things if you want the world to be a better place than it is.

Good point about higher ed by the author- I also don’t buy the liberal indoctrination in higher ed thing, based on my own experience. I became the insufferable liberal I am today at a christian college. My teachers weren’t particularly conservative, but neither were they overtly liberal. And my peers skewed

“If you’re not a liberal when you’re 20, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative when you’re 40, you have no head.”
