I agree, but my frustration with him and what made his death "pointless" (to me at least) was how the show writers turned him into a neurotic softy as opposed to the stone-cold badass he was in the books. On this point I couldn’t agree more. It’s my opinion that Hitler was even more pathological than his actions would indicate (hard to imagine the craziest person being even crazier) and his goal wasn't to win the war so much as it was to destroy everything possible.
Couple that with the historically-accurate isolationist foreign policy positions of Vice President Garner and one could easily imagine an Axis victory.
