I loved the new Doom for basically being the old Dooms in the way they should have been. I cut my PC gaming teeth across those diskettes, by I loved the world building aspect of the DOOM the most above everything else.

I’ve mostly been catching up on PS4 games I missed this Winter and Spring, but as far as games that came out this year... probably Overwatch. I know it’s less than a week old, but darn if it hasn’t lived up to my expectations so far.

But at least Future Soldier was still fun to play. The Campaign and Horde Mode co-op was super fun!

Whenever I hear people talk about it, I end up questioning whether I was the only one who actually liked Future Soldier...I thought that game was awesome...certainly better than at least GRAW 2 if not both GRAWs (definitely was better than either in the multiplayer department). I really loved the cover and suppression…

Now I need to buy this game.

If I read the article right, they didn’t disable the mod; they just removed it from their own website. You can still get it at third-party sites, including ModDB. That sounds pretty close to the approach you’re recommending, no?
