I think that the GOP is going to have a very hard time dealing with the ACA. Repealing it outright will make healthcare inaccessible for millions of their own voters, repealing only the unpopular-but-necessary parts will be a disaster, not repealing it at all will piss off the voters they’ve been lying to for 6+

That’s not really the problem. The problem is that they removed factual scientific information from an educational website because the state governor (or one of his cronies) found the scientific findings to be politically incorrect.

Powell’s study found 24 dissenting papers out of a pool of over 13,000. And most of those 24 were arguing either 1) global warming is mostly caused by the sun rather than CO2/methane, or 2) global warming is caused by a natural, rather than anthropogenic, increase in atmospheric CO2/methane.

The other thing to consider is what the dissenters believe.

This kind of political suppression of science is very dangerous. In the past, when governments have decided which scientific theories are true based on political dogma (even despite being contrary to the evidence), millions have died.

That’s a good point, though I’d bet that Doctor Who costs a lot more to make than any of the other shows.

BBCA is a premium cable channel that most households don’t receive, that mostly plays shows they don’t have to pay to produce. Most HBO shows get less than 1.6m same-day.

Very cool. I played the crap outta some Duck Hunt as a kid. I always figured it bounced a beam off the screen, and I just asked my other half and he said the same thing.

Yep, all for $199, which is like.... $500 today.

I feel like, if I had a little kid and Ewan McGregor came to my door in a funny robe telling me that little Susie had magic powers and I should let him take her away to a magic temple for the rest of her life and I’d never see her again, I’d tell him to get the fuck outta my house. ;) I don’t know how the Jedi got

Don’t worry, I didn’t think you meant that. I just wanted to add something, and I guess try to commiserate a little. Heroin is a really tragic problem that doesn’t get enough attention in the discussion of drug reform.

Actually, I am, in fact, both threatened and demeaned by it. I live in a Republican-leaning area, and have some experience with these assholes who think they’re so much better than “libtards” and want you to know it.

Most corn grown in the developed world is BT corn, so most likely we both have. And organic farmers commonly spray with BT, so even if you stick to organic, you’re still eating it.

Fighting at this level requires incredible focus and skill and athleticism and hard work. There are dangers, too, absolutely. But it discredits your own argument to suggest that there’s no focus and nothing to admire about these women.

Are you seeing a personal trainer or taking group classes or anything like that, or just working on your own? I noticed significant improvements when I started doing some weights classes at the gym (though I’m not nearly as cut as Rousey, lol).

In TSD sparring, they normally pause the match and reset their position every time someone lands a hit, and normally only allow light contact. I think people who are only used to that kind of style can sometimes look down on people who do continuous fighting with harder contact, because they don’t understand it. They

I’m sure you worked hard in the dojang, but since Tang Soo Do does light-contact point fighting, that training is not going to give you a lot of context for what it’s like to really get hit, or for the excitement of doing continuous sparring.

The vast majority of fighters go on to live long, healthy lives. If they get a large number of concussions, yes, they’ll be at more risk of having some long-term health effects, but many careers carry risks. Should we demonize miners, construction workers, soldiers, firefighters, etc because they choose to do a job

Speaking of apples and grafting.... apples don’t grow true to seed, so apple “varieties” are trees that are cloned through grafting. Every one of those Honeycrisp apple trees is a clone of the original Honeycrisp tree that scientists created through intentional hybridization.

It’ll look about 1-2 feet high and kind of like wheat. Corn took a lot of artificial selection to look like that.
