Another article I saw about this (on Politico, I think) said that Carrier’s parent company has a lot of government contracts, and speculated that’s why they did this, not the $7m.

They only agreed after Trump got Pence, who’s still the state governor, to sign a deal giving them a $7 million tax break. Which still didn’t *force* them to do anything, but saying “we’ll pay you to stay here and punish you if you leave” is an approach that Republicans would be outraged by if Obama did it.

Yeah, I’m not really looking forward to a 45% increase in the price of most consumer goods. And even if those factories are brought back to the US, they’ll automate 95% of the jobs rather than pay reasonable US wages.

Yup. That’s fascism for you. I guess we’ll see how many Republicans are actual conservative capitalists and push back against this kind of thing, and how many go along with it.

I think your Marine friends may change their tune when the VA gets dismantled. We’ll find out soon whether the VA is going to be run by Sarah Palin or by a guy who’s outspoken about wanting to privatize it.

The first thing that jumps out at me about that “story”, honestly, is how can one guy personally interview 2.5 million people in three weeks??? Is he Superman? If he did 100 interviews a week, it would take him 500 years to interview that many people.

My future father-in-law, also a Trump supporter, thinks aliens built the pyramids because they said so on the History Channel. WTF is it with these people? They’re so gullible!

Unless they can use it to say something racist or homophobic.

Maybe Patraeus should run the VA? I feel like, as a retired general, that might actually be something he could whip into shape.

I’d say Lolita, but I think that implies her being underage.

Are you fucking kidding me. At least Patreus knows things about other countries, leaders, security, etc from running the CIA. WTF does Palin bring to running the VA? Our poor veterans.

Sounds like he’s still got another 5 or 6 months to do, if he got 2 years last April.

Before long, Black Lies Matter will join forces with ISIS to being down our legal constituted republic. You heard it first here.

It’s not a huge scandal, but it is strange a little alarming that he’s making calls with the leader of a nuclear power that’s also a state sponsor of terrorism without listening to intelligence briefings.

Ambiguous and/or tricks, yeah. That’s what I was trying to get at, though maybe not successfully - it’s transparently not a test of literacy, it’s a test designed to be as confusing as possible so they can fail anyone they want.

1. No one is trying to take over the country but guys like him and corrupt oligarchs like Trump. So if that’s his goal, it’s delusional and/or self-defeating.

Jesus Christ. That’s all trick questions and puzzles, not a literacy test. I got 800 on the verbal SAT and 700-some in math, took AP English & Calculus, and I’m not confident I would have passed that (since apparently you need 100% to pass).

Yeah, when I see someone with a flag flying in their yard and it’s all torn and faded, I always wonder whether that’s meant to be patriotic or a protest.

That reminds me of Jim Crow voting laws enacted after Reconstruction. If your grandfather was aregistered voter, you could go ahead and vote, but if he wasn’t, you had to pass a test to be able to vote. Of course the freed slaves, having been denied an education, could not pass it, and “seperate but equal” schools
