This is actually really dangerous. In many situations, stopping to do a simple function in the screen can be more dangerous that just doing it on the go.
Absolute crime against humanity. Tesla doing this and just barely well enough has started a permanent cavalcade of copycat touchscreen systems that are all worse. I cannot believe that not a single safety institute nor government has banned this level of touch screen reliance.
I thought the same thing but now I disagree. Full EV’s are still hard to use in long journeys, and burning gas isn’t worth it for short trips. If you can charge at home, you can drive nearly gasoline free like 95% of the time. If you need to drive further, the gas motor will do it, and the hybrid system can still help…

Not a single one on sale tickles my fancy. I want a golf/civic/kia forte sized hot hatch/compact with physical climate controls. Does a true EV compact exist with these two things? Nope. They can all fuck off for all I care. I like the taycan and E-tron, but they have their problems too.
The suspension is stiff enough. The brakes are small though, and the transmission tuning isn’t super aggressive. Tires will make it fun, but the slow steering won’t help. My dad got one of these. The tires are BY FAR the weakest point on this car. Replace them with more reasonable performance tires, summer or all season, and I imagine it’ll handle much better, though still not like a hot hatch. It also lacks space.

As a Mazda fan, hard agree. Mazdas seems to appeal to a niche where people want a normal car, but only occasionally need the utility. Most people would not want to compromise on practicality in a compact or sedan in that price range, no matter how special the interior or looks may be.
As sad as this is, if the Ioniq 6 is a true replacement for the sonata, with a comparable price (cost of ownership), size, and performance of the sonata, than this is fine.
I think gas prices, range anxiety with EV’s, and the superior efficiency of a <60" tall vehicle will bring them back. They still sell enough to be built and be profitable. We can never stop banging the drum about the superiority of sedans, hatches and wagons.

Yeah, android auto and apple carplay are designed for touchscreens, full stop. The clickwheel in the mazda is fine for me to use, except when it comes to using maps of anything complex in either UI. They should add a full time touchscreen in any subsequent refresh.
