I may be terribly off base, but I've always assumed Jamie and Cersei were the Targaryans. The incest makes more sense, Cersei and Joffery make more sense (the gods flip a coin), and it would be delightfully ironic for Tyrion to be Tywin's only trueborn child.

My suggestion would be to read the 6 Dune books (the ones you listed plus Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse Dune) written by Frank Herbert and as for the Kevin J Anderson/Brian Herbert abominations, KILL THEM WITH FIRE.
