I’d like to live in a world where we ignore misogynists. I can only imagine it is not the majority of gamers that are upset and just a small percentage of basement dwelling cave trolls. We need to stop giving them the attention they so desperately crave

Of the ten friends of whom I have swapped Friend Codes on Switch, eight are women. And they love them some Zelda and Fire Emblem in particular

It’s as anecdotal as what the whiners are saying, but these numbers largely match up with my experience (though the women percentage on the PS5 is disconcertingly low — gotta get those numbers up, Sony!). Gaming feels more diverse than ever, and much better for it. I do not miss the ‘good ol’ boys club.’ It was oh so

I mean, you can only analyze the data you have. If men don’t answer or don’t answer honestly, there’s not much you can do. Also, with THAT said, if you broke it down to type of game and genre, I’m willing to bet that women aren’t in multi player lobbies with voice chat on. They likely get harassed if they do. So they

Procedural generation and AI generation are both tools used to automate content creation. They both require rulesets and parameters in order to achieve the desired results. They both have the potential to replace human jobs but are unable to produce the same level of quality achieved by handcrafted content, hence the

Don’t know how you can say it will give more depth to games like that’s a given. Quantity of frictionless content is basically the furthest thing I can imagine from depth. Everyone keeps acting like it’s inevitable and linear that the dogshit ai content we have now will eventually become unique and engaging but that’s

Honestly, I’m baffled at the “lol” here. Do you not realize that “technical artist” is an actual job? If that’s the case, then I definitely recommend looking into it - technical artists do some really amazing stuff. Neat shader effects that can have such a massive impact on the visual and emotional quality of a scene,

We both know that authentic Aragorn sells better

“Equally defensive”? I asked a question. What’s wrong with race swaps of fictional characters? Start with your example: what’s wrong with making Storm Asian? Explain it to me.

there is something wrong with race swaps of established and clearly defined characters.

Yeah, I’m fortunate in that I still like the action gameplay. But I do wish they would toss us a bone and do another FFIX, and go retro. Maybe find a way to speed up, but keep turn-based battles. But just do another throwback game. It’s been like 20 years.

In the meantime, we have Bravely Default, I guess.

For whatever it’s worth, I’m inclined to agree with you. The gameplay and characters tend to be what really work in a FF game, more than the story itself.

This might be an insane thing to say, but since I started playing FF games in the early 90s, story has always been lower on the importance ladder than both gameplay and character design/aesthetics. The story could be improv and I wouldn’t care if the characters are cool and the gameplay is good.

Obviously  I appreciate

Not all games need to be for everybody. I have plenty of friends who’ve tried Souls games and, hitting the difficulty wall, aren’t interested in putting in the time and effort to overcome it.

That’s exactly right. I’m playing Bloodborne for the first time now, and I’ve never felt like I was cheated. Fight, die, fight again. As long as I learn from my mistakes and am careful, I can retrieve my blood echoes and push a bit further ahead. Those moments that I finally overcome an obstacle are satisfying because

I think a lot of modern game design just doesn’t use trial and error as much anymore. Whether it’s subtle clues or not so subtle, a lot of games will make it obvious what a player so that it’s usually possible to beat encounters on the first try. It just isn’t intuitive to many people that defeat can be a learning

This trial and error approach just came naturally to me. I think you hit the nail on the head, in that people are looking for a glowing spot on the giant enemy crab to do massive damage. Souls games don’t really have that. I think looking for the tell and following their moveset was the most obvious thing in the

People using the mod aren’t getting the same experience, though. Just by using an easy mode the gameplay is significantly changed from people who play it unmodded.

Your view is that you can’t enjoy success, only enjoying a perception of a gap between yourself and others. Plainly, this is a shitty worldview - and you’ve already decided to apply it to real life as well.

You are a shitty person.

I only played Dark Souls after someone literally begged me to play it. It made them happy to see me fail, but it made them upset (in a fun way) to see me prevail quicker then them. I was pretty hooked on the trial and error of the whole thing. While getting further is difficult, I have never felt that losing in these
