There's a lot of retroactive hate for it because nobody is allowed to like Zack Snyder now.

I give it thumbs up because it came out right when we had to read the book for class, so I saw the movie instead (knowing they changed the ending)
Ha ha yeah Chef sucked. I went because it was some massive critics hit and I felt like I was watching an episode of some network sitcom on its fifth season.
The Black Dahlia.
Ha, I saw this too. I went to see it because a brand new theater was opening, and I wanted to see something there on its first day. So I picked that. Eh, I enjoyed it enough IIRC.
Please just admit you want to see the blue penis.
Yeah maybe. He emerged as a movie star right at the time when Stallone/Schwarzenegger action movies were fading out, so you had this muscleman type dude doing Arnold type flicks like The Rundown and Walking Tall, when superheroes were becoming the new thing.
He tried doing the PG-Disney comedy bit for a while with…
Eh, I think OJ had pretty much peaked in terms of fame, he was doing a supporting gig in the Naked Gun movies right around the time. I could see him being a third-billed guy on an NCIS type show nowadays.
He only became a box office star when he joined the cast of sequels to things that were already hits - GI Joe 2, Fast Five, Journey to the (?). He'd been having quite an impressive string of flops with movies like Faster, Doom, Race to Witch Mountain, Gridiron Gang etc.
I can believe it…I'll watch any action movie, but jeez, this looks like trash. And OF COURSE because it's a female lead, they throw in a random lesbo scene.
Man, these are the worst. Dorks doing exaggerated mugging faces and saying "Oh my God!" at any sign of a special effect.
Yeah I have to go with Doubt, it had the most "star power", and its 2 episodes and done status is pretty tough to beat
Oh yeah good call on The Raid
Ha yeah I do not personally approve of many of the picks I made, but some of them (e.g. 300) were undoubtedly the most notable action movies of the year. Collateral is right on the border of not-exactly-Action with a capital A so I'm not sure it would qualify for the column.
Agreed about Bond, the column only began…
Ooh are we doing guesses on future picks? Crouching Tiger makes sense for 2000. As for beyond that, my considered opinions on what was the most relevant action movie of each year ('Hollywood' stuff only, my knowledge of Asian cinema is lacking) -
Yeah, this guy will totally show Superman!
It always annoys me that Deniro pronounces Hereford incorrectly, as he's supposed to be showing his knowledge in that scene
We need an article on that mid 90s period where Rob Schneider was inexplicably the go-to guy for Action Sidekick roles - Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, Knock Off
Well if we're talking a movie that changed the entire direction of cinema for the millennium, then it'd be X-Men.
Blade, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Elektra, and baby you got a stew goin'
