Well, the only game I wanted to import was Taiko no Tatsujin (“Taiko Master”) for the Wii U. But I can’t because of the region lock. What a shame. I have imported Taiko games for the PSP and DS in the past.

Not exactly. Ever try to stick a JDM N64 cassette in a US system? Physical region lock.
1996 has nothing to do with it. In fact, in 1996 (and 2006) Nintendo hardware was region free.
pretty much. their stupid region locking has prevented me from getting quite a few great Japanese games for the Wii and 3DS
... its a bunch of reasons i prefer the regular size
So this region locking is just software based (not “hardwired”), right? Then Nintendo could have released a firmware to unlock all the regions for the 3DS, new and old generations!? I thought Nintendo have heard about this for a long enough time that we all want region-free consoles. This kind of inflexibility makes…
Unless, that is, you have a 3DS you never plan on playing online or downloading eshop games to in any way, shape or form. Then, party on.
I haven’t updated in like 6 months just so I can have the convenience of a flash cart. I don’t even want to pirate anything, I just want to not carry around 50 little chips.
Why does Nintendo to continue to treat their consoles like it’s 1996?
Don’t forget added stability. I don’t know know if my 3DS could get any more stable.
i want region free so i cant get a japanese new 3DS, not a fan of the XL
Steam and Apple do not region lock, per se. Developers who use their platforms can choose to. Both platforms allow for global release.
As great as this sounds, I kinda don’t want to try this only because I already smell the ‘update fix’ inbound to undo this.
Financial reasons, that only Nintendo seem to be concerned about... and only until this generation of their handheld.
Your handheld system’s done things and had its passport revoked.
Regional pricing is the ONLY reason. Some regions have less favorable exchange rates and have pricing reflected as such. They also claim to fear that people buying out of region screws up their metrics for understanding if a game is worth releasing somewhere but I call bullshit on that.
Because you are supposed to play your portable handheld game system at home :3
Nintendo yanked the game from the eShop months ago when an exploit with that game was found. The only copies that are left are the retail ones no one could offload during the previous exploit, so grab one now before the price jumps back up.
Region locking should not be a thing. It should never be a thing. Fuck region locking.
Yes, I was being very specific about Milo and Christina, not Gamergate as a whole.
