But I would say, for instance, that splitting up The Hobbit into 3 movies, with added crap that wasn’t in the original story and a whole lot of padding, was a scam.

Hardly. Critical mode made it moderately difficult, but even on Proud mode all you had to do was put on the combo shortening skills and mash attack.
