Rather Unexpected

What a shame the game still has crippling performance issues that were never fixed, to the point where personally, on a machine that runs Witcher 3, GTA V and Dying Light without a problem... No Man’s Sky struggles to hit 30 FPS, and drops to 15 just because I turned around.

Speaking as someone who just bought this again in the GOG sale, because of the 1.3 update, I feel I must warn people:

THEY HAVEN’T FIXED THE GAME.

Starting up, not only is performance still terrible on a machine that runs Witcher 3, GTA V and Dying Light without issue, but since I upgraded to the AMD RX 480, it seems

“pretty hollow and shallow but certainly not deserving of the hate it got...”

While I’d agree that everyone’s disappointment got out of hand (disappointment in an entertainment product should never produce actual hatred) the developers and their promotional campaign did bullshit a lot of people, and looking at the

“it’s very rare that a developer works so hard to dramatically improve a game so long after the fact.”

Except for all those cases where the developer is actually open about the fact that their game isn’t finished, and thus their “working hard so long after the fact” is more a case of “working hard during the game’s

And it wasn’t *cheap*. That’s the thing that particularly bugs me.

I would have been happy to buy a game that was openly in development, in order to support it, if it had enough stuff there to warrant me buying it early. So yeah, in its initial state, I totally would have bought it; there was enough content in No Man’s

And don’t forget Quite-Gone-Jim, the Irish Jedi. But then, the Irish Jedi makes sense, given the ending to Force Awakens, in which it is revealed that Luke was hiding on planet Ireland.

On the accents front, I think historical authenticity is a more relevant issue, even when you’re dealing with fantasy. Because you’re dealing with *medieval* fantasy.

The American accent is a very, very modern accent. Having American accents in a medieval fantasy thing would be jarring, an outright anachronism, because

“Other critics and game developers have pointed out that not all video games are designed for everyone...”

There’s a point at which “artistic” choices that massively impact gameplay to the point of actually destroying your current run through the game... do not serve their purpose.

The game’s themes and artistic choices

Pretty good demonstration of how much more stable and efficient The Witcher 3's engine is than Bethesda’s efforts, when it comes to streaming the world rapidly.

“misairu”

That sounds suspiciously like the word “missile” just being mispronounced. Does Japanese not have its own word for missile? Or is it just too specific, and existing words are... only used for non-rocket-propelled things?

“Crafting medical kits requires hauling heavy loads of steel bars, which are used to make bandages, medical kits, and trauma kits...”

Aaand I’m out.

“...the music is an excellent facsimile of Bear McCreary’s iconic score...”

“...music...”

Except what happens during the Second World War? Without the US being wealthy and powerful, even if they joined the war (which they probably wouldn’t, given how reluctant they were in reality) they’d fail to stop the Germans.

So the Germans would win Europe. Probably decimate the British population (because Britain

“...similar to the real-life treaties that created Israel, Austria, Palestine, Hungary, Yugoslavia, etc...”

So presumably, the story will be about the constant bitterness and outright warfare that always result from such treaties, on both sides?

“...Since its formation, New Colonia has thrived, while the old, racist

Really? No mention of Vague Voices?

That track was beautiful.

It rendered the player’s arrival at Black Mesa more akin to arriving in a great cathedral. And I’m not sure you can call the intro “joyless” - for me and my friends, in our teens when the first game came out... that intro was pure magic. It was

“...Some designers prefer this frame rate for artistic reasons, as was the case in 2015’s The Order: 1886. 60 frames per second is growing in popularity as gamers and developers seek smoother gameplay...”

Correction:

Some designers prefer this frame rate due to platform hardware limitations and their inability to

Now if only they could spend a bit of that money they made on this hugely successful game and patch the damn thing so that people with more recent graphics cards could actually play it without crippling and inexplicable performance issues.

“...it was a death sentence for the French...”

Um, I’d say the French death sentence was actually their own army surrendering and literally heaping up their guns, and walking back past the civilians they were supposed to defend, having been led by an incompetent old fool in a castle that had no phone lines (messengers

You wouldn’t steal a baby. You wouldn’t shoot a policeman, and then steal his helmet.

Really? *That’s* the issue?

Seriously no talk of the fact that the entire school system would collapse with that stupid sorting hat? That you could never guarantee the right numbers per house, per year, so you’d end up with seriously messed up house populations... and since the houses = where you sleep, you’d end up
