I wish I had time to do this, because I know it would be better for me. But with full-time work and full time grad school, shopping and cooking kinda fall by the wayside. I store a lot of restaurant leftovers in my fridge. :-P

Now I wonder how my food purchasing and consuming habits would change if I didn't have a fridge ... and whether it would be an improvement!

Yeah, I'm really not keen on the hazelnuts either. I can eat a few actual hazelnuts, but I hate anything flavored with it. I'm with your mom. (Except for the raspberries. I love raspberries.)
