I feel like at this point we’re just defining ‘emotionally independent’ as a thing everyone is, just like we like to describe everyone as smart. Because, no, I don’t think emotionally independent people are in situations that don’t benefit them.

I wonder if part of this is that funny people tell jokes/are funny because they want approval from others. If we can encourage women to not need approval from others, will they be less likely to stay with abusive partners?
