The Caliber is related to the Neon only in that they were both Chrysler Corporation products. And of the two, the Neon was a vastly superior product.
The biggest problems these had was with the head gaskets in the early models. And that was fixed by 1997 or 1998 when they specified MLS gaskets as a fix. And apparently some early ignition coils were problematic, but easy/cheap to fix.
The Caliber wasn’t even remotely related to the Neon. It was a ground up all new design, based upon the final generation Mitsubishi Lancer.

I agree. I could forgive cost-cutting like this on a lower priced vehicle under another GM brand, but not on a “standard of the world” Cadillac.
