First, a significant part of the additional cost of premium is marketing.

Came here looking for references. That automobile.com link is good. But those are all long established brands and historically high volume models on that list. It’s audacious for Elon to try to bring a brand new design, from a new company to that level of production so quickly.

It’s a lot, but it’s not a lot compared to other car factories out there. Ford’s Kansas City truck plant made 460,000 trucks in 2011 (most recent data I could find). That comes out to be 9,200 vehicles per week..

Tesla didn’t do either of those.

And the fact that they’re considering making multiple powertrains tells me that they’re going to half-ass the electric and make a small-battery compliance car.

No electric vehicle is going to compete with Tesla until there is an equivalent DC charging network.
