All of the crash structures in an Indycar are far beefier than a road course only open wheel car specifically because of the high speed ovals.  IIRC the side impact protection is nearly twice as thick on an Indycar than an F1 car.

So they can go slower?  Current WRC cars are much, MUCH quicker than a Group B car.
