I know SPQR stands for Senatus Populas quo Romanus (or close to that) - The Senate and People of Rome. I'm trying to recall words from my Latin class that would make up the acronym, but I' don't think "y" was even in the Latin alphabet. Perhaps it's an english acronym meant to sound Latin?
