Local here... you are 100% correct.

All of the hidden gems in this area have become more and more popular on instagram and with Jeep/Razor clubs who set up convoys to these spots because they are relatively easy to find.

Learning that the train’s damage was mostly from vandalism and not from sitting was the saddest part. Images as recent as 2019 show it to be in mostly complete condition. Apparently, it gained some unfortunate popularity after people on social media posted its coordinates.

I cannot understand what goes through people’s heads when they steal from things like this. If I found this in the woods in pristine condition, stealing parts off from it wouldn’t even cross my minds.

Fucking love this.

Interestingly, the use of a pilot doesn’t mean the pilot is steering the ship. Which is why there is a fight about who is responsible. AFAIK the pilot gives direction, but it’s up to the ship captain, et al, to deal with it. Had the Ever Given been a normal sized cargo ship that the pilot had dealt with before I am

The frustrating part here is that if the Suez Canal gave some smaller ships a chance, I think it would find them just as/if not more satisfying.

Cargo ships have grown in size since the completion of the canal. At some point that “one lane” section was a two lane section.

If I remember correctly, the Suez Canal Authority pilots get on the ship and are the ones to navigate it through the canal. Seems like 3 ships stuck in recent memory is a SCA issue, not necessarily a ship issue...

Train goin' that fast...vaporize anything in its path

A: They fucked up.

I grew up near DC, back in the glory days where walking around at noon was asking for a trip to the hospital and the mayor was interested more than getting crack than controlling it.

many of these smaller municipalities likely have more of that corruption because it’s easier to get away with it.

I know those people. My sister, who actually is right in the middle politically being almost exactly 50/50 for voting her entire life loved living where the nearest house was over the horizon. If it wasn’t so bitter cold there in winter, she would retire there. I don’t see her wanting a walking area.

What the fuck are the trucking companies doing lol”

‘don’t want to live in any of the densely populated and very walkable cities because they’re run like shit and the crime rates are high.’

That’s pretty unfortunate, a walkable corner deli/market/hardware store was something that could be found in the suburbs before master planned communities took hold, but the amount of people old enough to remember that is quickly going down to 0.

IMO, the rural life on acres is pretty sweet, and being within walking distance of your needs is pretty sweet, it’s the in-between suburbs of 8000sqft lots and needing to take a car to go anywhere further than the mailbox that makes no sense in retrospect.

3rd: I’d like to live in walking distance to the grocery store and work, but my desire for privacy, space, quiet, and a scenic view overrule that. I’ve lived in a city within walking distance of everything, and I now live on 4 acres looking at the mountains. I’ll never go back to city life.

3rd Gear:

3rd gear - this shit always kills me. I make sure to live w/in walking distance of everything cause life is just simpler/easier that way. But even in my hick town of 10k there are new construction suburbs a mile or two out from the city center and ppl “commute” in their HD/SD trucks into town to go to the grocery
